Hello and welcome to the tenth of twelve reviews about the anime called Another.
I decided to separate them into episodes because I talk a lot, or in this case type a lot and the review for all twelve episodes was very long. So this way it’s short and sweet, and you can leave a reply telling me what you think of this episode. You can also find a list of the reviews at the bottom of the blog if you are interested in reading the others.

Episode 10: Glass Eyes
Like most of the episodes we get a flashback of the previous episode. You find out that the boy who died in the last episode had shut himself up in his house. Which you can only guess is due to the calamity, which sucks because, well he still died. You also get a little info about the class trip, and then the really bad intro. Not that its not a good song, but just does not go to this anime at all.
The episode starts with Izumi having a dream about her and Sakakibara, nothing special happens. Then the next scene is of the school trip. They decide to take a photo so they can remember the trip, but the whole class is just sitting there looking like they are about to cry. You find out a little about the lodge they will be staying at and the meet the people that run the place. All basic filler information if you ask me. Except the picture taking part, it reminds the viewer that these kids know they could die any minute, which adds a certain thrill element to the start of the episode.
When everyone gets settled in, Mei, Sakakibara, Yuuya and Naoya all sit down to finish listening to the tape from the last episode. If you don’t remember, it got broken when Naoya tired to take it out of the tape player and hide from the teacher. But Yuuya is able to fix it!
They start where they left off. Matsunaga says that he got into a fight at the bottom of the mountain with another student. The student falls and gets impaled by a stick. Matsunaga freaks and runs back to the lodge. When he gets there he is asked questions by the police, but not about the missing student. The next morning he decided to ask some of the other student about the missing student, but they don’t know who he is talking about. So he goes to look for their body and its gone, no sign of the body being there at all. Thats when he figures out that they way to stop the calamity is to kill the extra student, or as he says, send the dead back to the dead.
The looks on everyones face when they find out that they will have to kill someone is priceless. Naoya at first seems to almost want to go along with it, that is until Sakakibara asked him if he could really kill another classmate. Now look at it from their point of view, yes they would want to kill the dead student cause this means the calamity would stop and no one else would have to die. But, they don’t know who the dead student is, so they don’t know who to kill. This is why Sakakibara asked Naoya if he could really kill someone.
You have got to love Izumi. In the middle of dinner she decides she wants to give a speech. At first it is just I’m sorry that I did not do a better job at being the head of countermeasures. Then she decides to start blaming Mei for the calamity starting again. I mean when you look at it, this is a really jerk thing to do. Neither Mei nor Sakakiabara knew that they were going to be classmates. Heck, Mei did not even know that Sakakibara went to her school! But Izumi still wants something from Mei, she wants her to say sorry. Mei Stands up and tells her that if saying sorry would do anything she would do it, but she does it anyway. This of course makes everyone mad, and they all try to come to Mei’s defense. But this is all stopped short because one of the students is having and Asthma attack. Come to find out he has no medicine left in his inhaler, no one can make a call on their cell phones and the phones for the lodge are down. So the librarian who is now helping out with the class decides he is going to take the kid to the hospital.
After all the students see the librarian off, they go back inside. Mei thanks Sakakibara for standing up for her, and tells him to meet her in her room because she would like to see the picture. The picture is of the class that Sakakibara’s mother was in. Mei starts asking him questions, like can he see the kid who was the dead student? Well he can and the student looks distorted to him, but Mei sees the color of death.
Mei explains that her doll’s eye can see death in people. This is why she is certain that Sakakibara is not the dead student. She also says that she can see when people are close to death, like if they have an illness that will cause them to die. Which is kind of cool and then not so cool when you think about it. Cause she could help people get treated sooner to maybe stop them from dying. But she would have to see the color of death all the time, which is why she wears the eye patch.
We also find out the Mei is a twin in the middle of this death color talk. Her cousin which is not her cousin but her twin sister died the day Mei and Sakakibara meet. That was why she was in the elevator with the doll, and why she went to the morgue. She was giving her sister the doll she promised to give to her on her birthday.
Sakakibara finally gets the nerve to ask Mei if she knows who the dead student is and if they are there at the lodge. She tells him that she tries to keep her eyepatch on at school but yes, she does know who the dead person is, and just as she is about to tell him, Naoya decides to burst into the room and says that he thinks he did something terrible. Now during the whole scene with Mei and Sakakibara, you get a couple of flashes of things going on in the lodge. You see the old lady that runs the lodge, Naoya fighting with someone, and then a body laying on the ground. So we can guess what Naoya did, but we don’t get to see what that is until the next episode.
I love this episode. This episode is where all the fun starts happening. I remember when I first watched this series, I was really bored with it. I wanted them to hurry up and find out who the dead kid was, and how to stop it. But once I got to this episode, I was like holy crap, its finally going to happen! So you might want to really pay attention to the episodes from here on out, because all the little hints you have been given up until the episode, they are all going to be tied into a nice little bow for you in the next two episodes.
Well I do think that will be it for now. I hope you guys like my review/walkthrough of episode 10. You can find links to all the other reviews below.
